DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CONFERENCE
The first of two all-day conferences on Domestic Violence was held on March 3 at the North Orlando SDA Church with almost 200 participants. Gordon Waveney gave the morning seminar entitled “Who’s the Boss in My House?” It was extremely well received.
In the afternoon, the first session was done by Diana Oakley, a teenage victim who has emerged as an effective advocate. Diana, who is the author of “Intended Harm,” told her own story that gripped the hearts of her hearers. The second hour saw four breakout workshops. The men met with Dr. Dolphy Cross, Family Ministries Director of Southeastern Conference, while the women met with Family Life Educator Waveney Martinborough. The youth were with Family Counselor Lascell Philips, and the children with Dr. Cynthia Sheppy. The final hour was used for a Question Answer session with a panel of the day’s presenters and host pastor Tony Taylor as moderator.
Two evangelistic programs are scheduled for 2013. The first is being hosted by Pastor Charles Leader, Pastor of the Berea church in Downtown Toronto in the month of June. The second is scheduled for September in Georgetown, Guyana. The latter is aimed at reaching professionals and other Persons of Influence who do not attend the regular evangelistic programs. It will be held at a hotel’s Conference Center with compulsory paid registration. Please pray for the success of these endeavors.

In response to the request of the Vietnam Publishing House, we granted permission for the publication and sale of our book "I Love You." It has now been published, and colporteurs are selling this attractive volume to the Vietnamese public! HFBSI is donating all royalties to the Mission. We pray that many will be reached as they learn secrets for a happy family on earth and the way to a happy family in heaven.
Did you know that the leadership in China has also published some of our lessons in Chinese? And do you know that East Indian Pastors in Trinidad are reporting good success in evangelizing Hindus through the Family Life series? Truly, Family Life Evangelism is a very effective tool for reaching non-Christian people groups with the Gospel of Jesus.

Reaching Professionals with the Gospel.
In many developing countries the church is having great success in reaching the masses, but little success in reaching those in the upper classes of society. During the month of September, Happy Family conducted a special evangelistic outreach for Persons of Influence (POI) in the city of Georgetown, Guyana. The venue was the Regency Hotel and Suites. The presentations were done in the format of a professional seminar with each participant receiving 24 colorful 8-page study guides, a 3-ring binder, and an embossed pen.
For months SDA POIs were praying for and connecting with their professional counterparts, and then they invited them to register for the Happy Family Series, using a registration fee. About 75 SDA POIs succeeded in registering 45 professionals, and at any given session, 25 to 30 Guest POIs were present. Among the attendees were physicians, lawyers, university lecturers, administrators, and Sunday-keeping pastors. They were especially appreciative of the high quality of family material that they received.
Since this was a paid event, public decisions were inappropriate. However, participants were given an Attendance Feedback Card at each session, and they were invited to write their questions, prayer requests, and seminar responses. We were blessed with ten baptisms. Among them was a retired government official and college lecturer who has been delayed for decades. His wife, who has been a church elder for forty years, was overjoyed!
Concerning the upper class the inspired writer said, "The hook is not baited to catch this class, and ways and methods are not prayerfully devised to reach them with truth." EV 556. This series created a new awareness of the need for reaching persons in this neglected class of society. The Guyana Conference has embraced this initiative and has appointed a Director for this outreach. In addition pastors who participated in the program got firsthand experience, so that the program could be replicated in the future.

Second Domestic Violence Conference.
The prevalence of domestic violence in society today is cause for great alarm. Unfortunately, abuse is also found among members in our churches! This year Happy Family has conducted two one-day DV Conferences. The first one was done in March at the North Orlando SDA Church, and the second was conducted in October at the Altamonte Springs Church. About 350 persons participated in these Conferences.
The principal seminar entitled, “Who’s the boss in your house?” was presented in the morning by Gordon and Waveney Martinborough, Co-Directors of Happy Family Bible Seminars. The afternoon’s program had three segments. The first was a heart-gripping presentation by Diana Oakley, author of the book Intended Harm, which featured her own story of rape, escape, denial, healing and forgiveness. Diana then answered a variety of questions.
For the second hour, participants moved into four breakout groups. The Men’s seminar, conducted by Pastor Martinborough, aimed at empowering men to manage conflicts without violence. The women, under the leadership of Mr. Waveney Martinborough, examined "Three Vaccines for Immunize girls against Violence." In the third group, Counselor Lascells Phillips led adolescents to explore "How to Prevent Teenage Violence." "And the children, directed by Dr. Cynthia Sheppy, looked at Bullying and what to do about it." Finally, all reassembled for a Question and Answer session with a moderator and a panel. The responses to the presentations were overwhelmingly positive, and many are asking for more.
Healthy and Happy Series.
The good news is that the first draft of the brand new Integrated Health Evangelism series has been completed. The series consists of 18 seminars. Each of them has a professional Health component and a conceptually compatible Bible Doctrine component. The draft has been sent out to a number of leading health professionals for their examination, correction, and evaluation. When this is done, we will be ready for field testing. If you or your church is interested in participating in testing the series, please let us know.
The ultimate goal is to make this unique evangelistic series available to pastors, evangelists, health professionals and lay persons who wish to preserve the unity of the "right arm" with the body. The plan is to produce the material in a variety of formats - Study guides, Lessons, Sermon Manual, CDs, DVDs, and television programs.
